Lakai Fully Flared DVD

Lakai’s Fully Flared DVD is good. It’s very good. But I have to admit there were some disappointments. That is, just about every part after Mike Mo’s, who has the opening part, was a disappointment because the entire world of skateboarding is disappointing when you consider how freakin’ amazing Mo is.

I’m not going to spoil it for you, and I don’t think I can overhype how amazing the opening credits are. I had no idea something like that was coming, and I have no idea how they did it all without everyone getting killed. I’ll just give you one word–explosions.

As I was saying, Mike Mo is amazing. I mean seriously amazing. I don’t remember the last time I felt this way about a video part. It was mind boggling. After that people could do amazing tricks and all I could think was “Yeah, there’s a part of my brain that is saying that this is amazing too, but it’s not Mo-amazing.”

The disappointments for me were:

- Koston’s part seemed short to me, but hey, he hasn’t been on the team all that long. Still, I think he could have produced some more footy.

- Welsh, Johnston, and Lenoce…c’mon guys, I mean, what are you saving your footage for, or do you just not have any? The last full part Welsh had that I know of was a few years ago in that Transworld video, Johnston hasn’t had a full part since he was on Mad Circle, and Lenoce has never had a full part that I know of. We know you guys are good–it’s not that we’re doubting it, we just want to see what you’re doing.

I have to admit I actually haven’t seen the end of the video yet, meaning the end of Mariano’s part and Marc Johnson’s part, let alone the extras. I loaned it to a friend because I’ve got too much work to do right now anyway. But if this video had nothing else on it but Mike Mo’s part it’d be worth $50, easy.

As said above, you did forget to metion the French Connection: They were incredible! Lucas Puig, Jesus Fernandez, JB Gillet, top stuff, as well as the rest of em’. I also really like Olson’s part, sure he was no where near Mike Mo’s tech stuff, but some of those gaps were amazing. Fully Flared: Fully Fantasic.

Nearly as good as Bag of Suck haha.

Yeah… this was a pretty stupid review in all honesty. The intro was a blast (LOL puns!) to watch and Mike Mo’s opener was really sick, good enough that you will watch it 5 times before you believe what you have seen, but it didn’t overshadow the rest of the video like you say. Koston’s part was shorter than hoped for, but when you see the tricks he was doing it is completely understandable. He does things that aren’t possible in a Tony Hawk video game for crying out loud. Biebel also had an amazing part, half of it was switch or nollie and he is so buttery that I honestly thought he was regular (he’s actually goofy) for a while. It’s difficult to tell what his natural stance is at times, especially if you see the super steezy switch back tail on a ledge at waist height at the beginning of his part. Then there is Marc Johnsons part, fifteen minutes long and not a single “filler” trick to speak of. He literally has a fifteen minute part where EVERY trick will make you think to yourself, “Darn, I might as well give up now.”. It’s that good.
Those are four parts that will go down in history as some of the best parts of all time, in one video. Then we have all the other skaters, each of them with parts good enough to carry the video along as one of the better videos of the last 10 years even without MJ, Mike Mo, Koston, or Biebel. This is a truly spectacular skateboarding video, I would give it 10 out of 10 and a high recommendation.

Yeah, the first review given wasn’t very good. It IS true that Mike-Mo’s part was great and all but you can’t leave out credit for the other skaters. The French Connection killed it, Lucas Puig blew my mind with his style and choice of tricks like his switch laser over the street gap and back 360 kickflip over the bench. Alex Olson looks like he was made to skate, his style and pop are incredible, I could watch him skate all day. Carroll and Biebel put out a really sick parts and Mariano’s was fantastic as well. Koston’s was a tad short and his song choice was actually a little annoying but the kind of shit he was doing topped his Yeah Right part by far. And finally, Marc Johnson’s part… Which is easily one of the best parts ever. You can tel he put everything into that video. Fifteen minutes of enders. The video is almost and hour and a half long, the intro is incredible and well-done. And the whole video itself is filmed beautifully thanks to Ty Evans and others. This video is one in a million.
