SLAP Magazine New Website

Hmm, so Transworld and Slap both got new websites on almost the same day. But I already reviewed Transworld’s so let’s talk about Slap.

Slap Magazine’s new website.

Ok, when it comes to website design you’ve got a few things to take into consideration. Design, usability, and content are some of the big ones.

Design. By “design” I mean how does it look. Well, I think it’s ok, but I wouldn’t give it any awards. But whatever, I’m not going to be too harsh or they might cancel my subscription. Let’s just say the design leaves something to be desired.

Usability. Usability means whether or not the navigation makes sense, whether or not you can find what you want, whether the functionality helps you or hinders you–in essence, whether it’s easy to use. In that sense the site is pretty simple, so it’s pretty easy to use. Just the same, I think there could be some improvements. For example, can you find where to search the site? It’s tucked up under the blog box on the homepage. Normally this would be towards the top of a website, generally in the upper right. People have gotten used to looking there for that type of thing so you might as well cater to them.

Content. Here’s where I think Slap does a great job. Everything is up there, and it’s stuff that’s from the magazine I just barely got, so it’s not like they wait a few months for content to get stale before putting it up. Well done.
