Want to see photos of the Fairmont / Sugarhouse Skatepark in the Sugarhouse area of Salt Lake City, Utah? Well then click here for photos my young friend. And while you’re at it go hire the SITE Design Group to build your next skatepark. Colby knows what he’s doing.
I had the opportunity to skate the park last Saturday, and it wasn’t all that bad.
The park was a little crowded, but that’s a given on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
Rather than talking about what the park has and doesn’t have, I’ve come up with a rating system to make it easy for you to tell whether this is a park that’s worth going to skate or not. Here’s how it works:
Bad – Don’t go.
Good – Go.
If you don’t get it at first you’ll catch on with time.
This park is pretty good. I wish the hip had been built with a sharp corner rather than a rounded one–I see almost no purpose for rounded corners on hips. The other problem with the hip is that no matter how fast I tried to go I couldn’t hit it with a lot of speed. Enough speed to get over it comfortably, yes, but I had to work pretty hard to get the speed.
There’s a big bowl there that’s pretty hairy, but fun, and I was surprised how many people skated it while I was there. Just the same, I think it would have been better to have had less bowls (bowls take up half of the park) and more street stuff.
There was a kid who arrived on the scene who rode that bowl as well as the street course like a champ. The bowl must be about 10 feet deep and this kid was carving it, doing 50-50s, and backside disasters in the deep end. The kid can’t have been more than 15-16 years old. It’s nice to see someone that young with those kinds of skills.

Sounds like this skatepark has got a lot more to offer than most parks here in the UK. I’ve been to a fair few skate parks here in England and most consist of a number of quarter pipes as well as a box and a few rails. Street skating is the way to go over here.
That’s great news bro! More skateparks for the world!!!
Envy with the kid. I don’t have skating skills. I had an accident when I was 7 years ols and never did it since then. I am just a fan and I’d like to see that place.
